SpaceX set to accept dogecoin as payments
Founder of SpaceX Elon Musk has recently announced that his rocket company will now accept the new cryptocurrency dogecoin as payment.
In his tweet, he said his firm SpaceX the commercial space exploration will launch the “DOGE-1 Mission to the Moon” early next year.
This came after he said dogecoin was a “hustle” and the cryptocurrency has continued to tumble since the technology billionaire said it on television during an interview
He tweeted late last month that SpaceX was going to put a “literal Dogecoin on the literal moon”.
The dogecoin-funded mission was announced earlier on Sunday by Geometric Energy Corporation based in Canada.
Although the statement from Gemotric Energy Corporations did not reveal the financial value.
“This mission will help us to know and show that cryptocurrency has use beyond our planet earth and to also be a kick start for interplanetary commerce”, this statement was made by the Vice President of Commerce Sales at SpaceX Tom Ochinero.
Elon Musk’s recent tweets have helped to turned the value of dogecoin, dogecoin started as a social media joke, but it’s now the world’s fourth-biggest cryptocurrency.
Dogecoin soared by more than 800% over the month of April, dogecoin market value is above $70bn, according to cryptocurrency data tracker CoinGecko.com.
However, since Sunday it price has continued to tumble after Mr, Musk called it a hustle during a television comedy show, Saturday night live.
Electric car maker Tesla bought Bitcoin worth $1.5bn and are planning to accept the cryptocurrency as a means of payment.
The announcement was seen as another major step towards the mainstream acceptance of bitcoin and helped to boost the price of the cryptocurrency to a fresh record high of nearly $62,000.
Tesla first quarter profit for the year were $438m, up $16m from last year, this was due to the sales of Bitcoin and environmental credits.
Also on Saturday Night Live Mr Musk also revealed that he has Asperger’s syndrome.
People with Asperger’s has social and communication disorder.
Mr Musk has spoke about this condition for the first time.
