CAN Shouldn’t Have Announced N100m Ransom Paid For Methodist Prelate – Actor Akah Nnani
Nollywood actor, Akah Nnani, on Wednesday said that the Lagos State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria, should not have made public its payment of N100 million ransom to secure the release of the Methodist Church prelate, Samuel Kanu-Uche.
The payment of the ransom was made public by the Lagos CAN Chair, Bishop Stephen Adegbite, at a press conference in Yaba, Lagos on Tuesday.
Reacting to the video posted on PUNCH Instagram page, the actor said, “Good. So you have just told kidnappers that this is good business. Well done.”
Clarifying, Nnani said, “I’m talking about CAN being comfortable sharing this news. Not everything should be public consumption. I don’t think it’s a good thing to negotiate with kidnappers. Our state of security is so horrible.
“So if it comes to that, keep quiet so as not to encourage more incidences. They shouldn’t have shared. Plus this is CAN. But if it were a poor Christian they will say pray. Prelate now, they paid 100m.”
The Prelate was abducted on Sunday evening alongside the Methodist Bishop of Owerri, Rt. Rev. Dennis Mark, and his (the Prelate’s) chaplain.
